K-ETA, e-Arrival Card, and the first airport hour

A cautious pre-departure checklist for Korea entry paperwork, official sites, and the first decisions after landing.

Start with your passport, not someone else's itinerary

Korea entry requirements depend on nationality, visit purpose, stay length, and current exemptions. Treat social posts as hints, not rules. Before booking non-refundable travel, check whether you need a visa, K-ETA approval, an e-Arrival Card submission, or a combination of official steps.

If you searched for "Korea travel requirements" or "do I need K-ETA for Korea", do not stop at a blog answer. Use this guide as a checklist, then confirm your passport-specific rule on official websites.

K-ETA basics

K-ETA is Korea's electronic travel authorization system for eligible visa-free visitors. The official site warns travelers to apply only through the government website or official app, and it lists the application fee and review guidance. Some countries or regions may be temporarily exempt, so do not assume your friend's passport rule applies to yours.

First airport hour

Before landing

Save your accommodation address in Korean and English, keep your passport and confirmations offline, and decide whether you will use AREX, airport bus, taxi, or a private transfer.

After immigration

Get connected, withdraw or exchange a small amount of cash if needed, and buy or top up a transport card before entering the city.

What not to do

  • Do not pay unofficial K-ETA agencies unless you intentionally want a third-party service.
  • Do not wait until the airport to learn whether your nationality needs an authorization.
  • Do not assume rules stay fixed across calendar years.
